All are invited to watch the solar eclipse from the Campus Green.  A solar eclipse is a rare celestial event and occurs when the Moon passes in front of the Sun from our Earth-bound perspective. 

Drop in during the following time frame to witness the wonder through safe measures: 

• 12:40 pm: The Moon will be seen just starting to move in front of the sun.
• 2:00 pm: The Moon will cover ~85% of the Sun (max coverage) from Birmingham.
• 3:17 pm: The Moon will move from being in front of to passing out of the line-of-sight of the Sun. 

Feel welcome to bring a blanket and chill while you star/moon gaze, watch a solar eclipse demo, and make a solar eclipse craft.

This event is hosted by the Astronomy Club at UAB with special guests:

• UAB Solar House
• NASA JPL Solar Syatem Ambassador (Tina Wei, UAB Nurse Practitioner).

Educational materials and eclipse glasses will be provided first-come, first-serve.

Note:  This event is weather-dependent.  If the Sun cannot be seen through the clouds, the event will not take place.

Caution: DO NOT look at the Sun without certified protective glasses.  Please visit the American Astronomical Society's website Suppliers of Safe Solar Viewers for a list of approved vendors.  For guidelines in evaluating any pair of eclipse glasses, review this resource.
