DESCRIPTION:Join the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center for our August Speake
r Series featuring Dr. Adam Straub. \n\nAdam C. Straub is an Associate Pro
fessor of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology and Director of the Center for
Microvascular Research in the Heart\, Lung\, Blood and Vascular Medicine
Institute at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Adam recei
ved his bachelor’s degree from Allegheny College\, his Ph.D. from the Un
iversity of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health and completed his
post-doc training at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. His r
esearch focuses on understanding the basic mechanisms of redox signaling i
n cardiovascular and sickle cell disease. His efforts specifically concen
trate on heme biology\, in particular enzymes that modulate heme iron redo
x regulation and heme degradation. Adam’s work has been published journ
 als including Nature\, Journal of Clinical Investigation\, Circulation\, C
irculation Research\, Arteriosclerosis\, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology a
nd Journal of Biological Chemistry. He has published more than 60 publicat
ions and has been supported by extramural research funds including a multi
ple NIH R01's\, and AHA Established Investigator Award\, and industry fund
ed grants. He has received recognition for his research accomplishments by
the American Heart Association (AHA) by being selected as finalist for th
e ATVB Irvine H. Page Young Investigator Research Award\, finalist for the
BCVS Outstanding Early Career Investigator\, recipient of the Harry Goldb
latt Award from the Council on Hypertension and recipient of the Mid-Caree
r Research Award from the AHA Council on Hypertension.
