Join the Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center for our August Speaker Series featuring Dr. Adam Straub.
Adam C. Straub is an Associate Professor of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology and Director of the Center for Microvascular Research in the Heart, Lung, Blood and Vascular Medicine Institute at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Adam received his bachelor’s degree from Allegheny College, his Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health and completed his post-doc training at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. His research focuses on understanding the basic mechanisms of redox signaling in cardiovascular and sickle cell disease. His efforts specifically concentrate on heme biology, in particular enzymes that modulate heme iron redox regulation and heme degradation. Adam’s work has been published journals including Nature, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Circulation, Circulation Research, Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology and Journal of Biological Chemistry. He has published more than 60 publications and has been supported by extramural research funds including a multiple NIH R01's, and AHA Established Investigator Award, and industry funded grants. He has received recognition for his research accomplishments by the American Heart Association (AHA) by being selected as finalist for the ATVB Irvine H.
