UAB Libraries to Commemorate Marcel Proust with a lecture on Proust's presence in America's Literary and Cultural Life by William C. Carter, PhD, a Distinguished Professor Emeritus of UAB and former chair of the university’s World Languages & Literatures Department.

Dr. Carter is one of the world’s preeminent scholars on Proust and is author of numerous monographs, including Marcel Proust: A Life (2000), Proust in Love (2006), and The Memoirs of Ernest A. Forssgren: Proust’s Swedish Valet (2006).  Carter is presently working on a revised translation of In Search of Lost Time (volumes one through four are available from Yale University Press).

Dr. Carter will be assisted in his lecture by Nicolas Drogoul, a UAB alumnus, and the lecture will be illustrated with some of Drogoul’s photography of Proust related areas across France.

Following the lecture, attendees will be able to view an exhibit of the Proust collections housed in University Libraries and some of the Proust-related material owned by Carter and by Drogoul.
