The UAB HIV Basic and Translational Science Symposium is a 1.5 day scientific meeting designed to showcase cutting-edge HIV research across the continuum from fundamental laboratory science to clinical and population-level applications. This event brings together faculty, clinicians, trainees, and external collaborators to present new findings on HIV biology, immunology, co-infections, and therapeutic strategies through a series of expert talks, poster sessions, and interactive discussions.

The symposium, sponsored by both the UAB Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) and the Department of Microbiology, emphasizes translational science - bridging basic discoveries with real-world impact - by highlighting topics such as viral mechanisms, immune responses, chronic inflammation, and emerging approaches to HIV treatment, prevention, and cure. It also serves as a platform to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, connect researchers with institutional resources and funding opportunities, and support trainee development through abstract submissions and presentations.

Overall, the event aims to strengthen the HIV research community at UAB and beyond by fostering knowledge exchange, encouraging innovation, and accelerating progress toward improved therapies, vaccines, and ultimately a cure for HIV.
