The UAB Brass Symposium offers two days of clinics, recitals, and student ensembles. This year's featured clinicians will be the UAB Faculty Brass Quintet (Dr. James Zingara and Dr. Steve Roberts, trumpets; James Baker, horn; Dr. Caleb Owenby, trombone; and Tom Yan, tuba).

A highlight of the Symposium is the High School Honors Ensembles, which basically are “Honor Bands for Brass.” Students prepare pieces for performance in like-instrument ensembles, where they can learn specific techniques involved with improving listening and ensemble skills. The honors ensembles are open to all motivated trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, and tuba players of high school age, with the recommendation email from their directors (please send to jzingara@uab.edu). Exceptional 8th grade students may also participate.

The $60 registration fee covers 3.5 hours of instruction, 2 clinics, a Friday evening faculty recital, a medal and a UAB Brass Symposium T-Shirt. They will also be featured in the Saturday evening Celebration of Brass Concert.

As a public institution of higher education, UAB adheres to principles of Free Speech, Civil Discourse and Institutional Neutrality.
