Topics to be covered will include an Introduction to Python, Unix and Git basics. It is designed as a foundation upon which more specialized skills can be built. The workshop will not delve into more advanced topics in computational biology or bioinformatics. These topics will be covered in later workshops.
Please note that while registration is not taking any official payment, the actual cost is $100. Registration is only listed as free since this form is NOT being used to collect payment. The fee is payable with a UAB Oracle account number that is entered during registration. See the event confirmation for further details. Please be sure to obtain approval from your PI or Department supervisor before registering. Since registration holds a spot for you after the registration deadline these fees are non refundable. in the event that you cannot attend for unforeseeable circumstances the fees can be used for a later class.
Participants are required to bring their own laptops, equipped with either Mac, Linux, or Windows operating systems. Chromebooks, tablets, and similar devices are not suitable for the software and tasks involved in this workshop. It is also important that you have administrative privileges on your laptop, as this will be necessary for installing required software. Instructions for these installations will be provided before the workshop, ensuring all attendees are prepared to engage fully from the start.
