The Role of Heme-TLR4 Interactions in Sickle Cell Disease

This is a past event.

Join UAB's Lifespan Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center for our May Speaker Series featuring Joan Beckman, MD/Ph.D.

In July 2018, Dr. Beckman moved to the University of Minnesota to begin her academic career as a physician-scientist studying how the endothelium interacts with blood cellular components and immune cells. She collaborates with Drs. John Belcher and Greg Vercellotti evaluating the role of endothelial activation in Sickle Cell Disease.  She also has research involving activation of the endothelium in myeloproliferative neoplasms and other thrombotic disorders. Through collaboration with Dr. David Wood, she is working to translate their findings into humanized endothelial systems.
