"The Puzzle of Addiction" Jemison Visiting Professorship in the Humanities
About this Event
1301 10th Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35205
Dr. Hanna Pickard, professor of philosophy at Johns Hopkins University, will deliver a Jemison Visiting Professorship in the Humanities Lecture entitled "The Puzzle of Addiction."
Addiction science is at an impasse. Translational results from decades of research are minimal, while theories of addiction multiply and compete. To move forward, we must recognize that addiction is not one thing. It is not a brain disease in every case, even if it is in others. This new paradigm promises to both reconcile disagreements in addiction science and to reduce addiction stigma.
