About this Event
Explore the fascinating world of oral health during The Science of Oral Health (and how bad breath could tell you something about your overall health). During this session, Dr. Nico Geurs will delve into how a biofilm of bacteria in your mouth and bleeding gums can affect your overall health and well-being. Bacteria on the tongue, teeth, and mucosal surfaces can emit unpleasant odors. But that's not all! Poor oral hygiene, diet, and other factors contribute to these common issues that affects over 80 million Americans. Dr. Geurs, Dean of the School of Dentistry, will provide practical tips for preventing oral diseases, emphasizing the importance of brushing twice a day, flossing, and regular dental visits. Additionally, he will discuss how cavities, gum disease, and other oral health issues can harbor bacteria that produce sulfur compounds, leading to foul-smelling breath. Gain insight on how you can take steps towards improving your oral health.
