Dr. José Campos Cañizares
(Universidad Complutense de Madrid)
Dr. Campos will make three inroads into the world of bullfighting: (1) The first will be a historical approach to the Spanish tradition, as it was celebrated during the times of the publication of Miguel de Cervantes’ famous novel Don Quixote, and throughout the 17th century. (2) The second will dwell on this tradition in the arts, particularly looking into the famous drawings of Francisco de Goya. And the (3) third inroad will bring Ernest M. Hemingway’s novels Death in the Afternoon and The Sun Also Rises to the forefront of the discussion as a view of the outsider (non-Hispanic).
The lecture will be in Spanish.
