In commemoration of Women's History month, the IHR is hosting a Social Justice Café on the rights of incarcerated women and girls in America and around the world. This topic is crucial and one that impacts so many people around the world, yet is seldom talked about in mainstream circles. This conversation will focus on the unique challenges that women and girls face, both during their incarceration as well as after they reenter society upon release. Speakers will also explore the different correctional institutions around the world, looking at policies and practices that can be translated into American prison systems to improve the conditions within these penitentiaries.

For this event, the IHR is hosting a number of speakers that bring expertise to this topic from different perspectives. We will feature Andrea James, Founder and Executive Director of the National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls, Coletta Youngers, the International Outreach Coordinator at the National Council for Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls, and Dena Dickerson, the Chief Operating Officer at the Offender Alumni Association. This talk will be moderated by Dr. Sarah Tucker, Assistant Professor at the Deparment of Occupational Therapy, and the Program Director of the Post-Professional Clinical Doctorate in Occupational Therapy (OTD).
