Wednesday, February 28, 2024 4pm to 5pm
About this Event
Join us for our Social Justice Café, as Dr. Kathryn Morgan explores the intersectional issue of Race, Justice and Identity in America. She will be analyzing the various policies that the American Justice System has passed, which have impacted the lives of African Americans to this day. She will examine these policies chronologically, beginning with slavery and slave codes, to Jim Crow laws, to the Civil Rights period, all the way to the War on Drugs, War on Crime and the Mass Incarceration policies impacting Black communities today.
Dr. Kathryn Morgan is a Professor of Criminal Justice, and the Director of the African American Studies Program at UAB. She is also the Affirmative Action and Diverstiy Officer for the College of Arts and Sciences at UAB. Dr. Morgan's research focuses on corrections, race & crime, criminal justice policies, and death penalty. Her most recent publishing, "Probation, Parole and Community Corrections Work in Theory and Practice: Preparing Students for Careers in Probation and Parole Agencies," details how students can apply the theories they learn in class into professional fields of practice within the justice system.
