Scholars Symposium is a yearly celebration of the School of Dentistry’s rich history and current accomplishments, showcasing the achievements of students, residents, and faculty as we prepare the next generation of academicians and scientists to impact the oral health of our nation. The event highlights one of the school’s four foundational pillars, Research, and provides a venue for faculty, residents, students, staff, and guests to discuss a broad range of topics associated with the methods and outcomes of oral health, dental and craniofacial research. It also fosters interactions between the School of Dentistry and other schools across campus, as well as UAB’s interdisciplinary centers.
The theme and emphasis of this year’s symposium is Dental Public Health/Epidemiology which highlights current clinical outcomes issues in oral health and the mission of the National Dental Practice Based Research Network (NDPBRN), housed at the UAB School of Dentistry.
In keeping with this year’s emphasis, Dr. Michael Glick will give the opening keynote, "A Skeptic's Guide to Literature." Dr. Glick is Professor and William M. Feagans Chair at the University of Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. Well-known for his medicine-oriented approach to dental care, he served as chair for the Vision 2020, World Dental Federation (FDI), and is presently co-chairing the FDI Think Tank. In addition to his many leadership positions, he has received numerous awards for his entrepreneurship, community and professional activities, clinical acumen, teaching excellence and writings.
