Reflections on the Past and Hopes for the Future: A Conversation with Mr. Prince Chambliss and Dr. Maurice Hobson

The UAB Black Alumni Network will host a conversation with two former UAB Blazers, Attorney Prince Chambliss and Dr. Maurice Hobson, who have successful careers and have impacted the community.

In 1970, the Afro-American Student Association was approved as an official student organization. Mr. Prince Chambliss was selected as the first President. He graduated from UAB in 1971, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree, and in 1974, he earned a J.D. Degree from Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Since graduating from Law School, Mr.Chambliss has distinguished himself as a Lawyer who broke many barriers for African Americans in the legal field. In 2009, he published his Memoir  Prince of Peace: A Memoir of an African-American Attorney, Who Came of Age in Birmingham During the Civil Rights Movement.

Dr. Marcus Hobson is an Associate Professor of African American Studies at Georgia State University. He graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and African American Studies. While at UAB, Dr. Hobson was a starting Full-Back for the Blazer Football team. He earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Alabama in 2002 and a Ph.D. in History at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2009. In addition, Dr. Hobson is a Historian, author, and media consultant for media projects with ESPN and HBO.
