The UAB Office of Research welcomes Dr. Kevyn E. Merten as Finalist for the Senior Associate Vice President for Research Operations position currently under recruitment.

Kevyn Merten, Ph.D., is an Associate Vice President for Research & Innovation and Chief of Staff for the Executive Vice President for Research & Innovation at the University of Louisville (UofL). Kevyn leads research administration, compliance, and infrastructure initiatives, building effective foundational support systems and driving strategic initiatives that allow the research community to grow and thrive. Additionally, Kevyn helps to oversee the day-to-day operations of UofL’s Office of Research & Innovation, including institutional research investment strategies and programs.

Prior to joining UofL, Kevyn served as Vice President for Drug Development at Pradama, Inc., a pharmaceutical company focused on the development of therapeutics for bone diseases and disorders. During his career he has been PI or Co-I on more than $5M in externally funded awards and is currently MPI for UofL’s NIH-funded 2019 Research Evaluation and Commercialization Hub. Kevyn has been recognized as a ‘Forty Under 40’ honoree by Business First Louisville, an award that recognizes members of the business community for career achievement, community service, and the potential to become the next generation of community leaders. Kevyn holds a M.S. and Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology from UofL and a B.S. in Agricultural Biotechnology from the University of Kentucky.

The UAB Office of Research is conducting a nationwide search for the Senior Associate Vice President for Research Operations.

The Senior Associate Vice President for Research Operations (SAVP RO) will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Office of Research (OoR). This role includes managing business operations, compliance, facilities, communications, finance, human resources, and procurement. Reporting to the Vice President for Research (VPR), the SAVP RO collaborates with the university’s leadership to implement UAB’s strategic research vision.
