ORCA Abstract Workshop

The Social Justice Advocacy's Council (SJAC) annual social justice conference, Organized Radical Collegiate Activism (ORCA) will be held on Friday, February 10th, 2023 on the UAB campus. This workshop is to help students prepare for how to write an abstract for the ORCA Conference.

ORCA is a annual conference that aims to address the challenges and advantages of engaging in social justice advocacy work. SJAC is looking for session proposals prepared by current college students related to social justice advocacy work they have done on their campus or in their community. The goal is to have these proposals aid fellow students and organizations that want to carry out more successful advocacy or lay the groundwork for advocacy to begin on their campuses.

SJAC proposals should address one or more of the conference themes: Challenges, advantages, issues, and/or organizing of student activism, advocacy, or how to incorporate social justice into campus work on college campuses to relay that social justice has no boundaries. Proposal information must follow these guidelines: 40 minutes long with approximately 10 minutes for Q&A, 5 minutes for introductions and conclusions, and 5 minutes for participants to fill out the session feedback form. (Total of 60 minutes) 1-4 presenters Suggested formats: panels, workshops, presentations, roundtables. SJAC coordinators will review and follow up regarding the status of all proposals, as well as any feedback/questions/edits we may have.

Proposal submissions are due by Sunday, January 15.
