Please join the Institute for Human Rights along with our other co-sponsors from across the College of Arts and Sciences, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the DEI offices from the School of Health Professions, Heersink School of Medicine, School of Nursing and the School of Public Health as we commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Movement with a week of events starting with our Navigating Parole & Reentry event.
Alabama has one of the lowest parole rates in the United States. Come learn about the original purpose of parole, and how it has changed from the original purpose, and investigate what might have motivated the change. UAB pre-law students will discuss case law. Scotty Colson with Jimmie Hale Mission is going to talk about the difficulty of when parole is granted to the inmate and the struggles they face when entering back into society.
