Mindfulness for Use in the Classroom, Advising, and Self Care
Description: This session will introduce mindfulness meditation to advisors and professors, teach several brief mindfulness exercises, and reflect on the benefits of mindfulness for students, professors, and advisors.
Nearly everyone in academia can experience stress that can affect performance. Mindfulness techniques are easy to use regularly at work, at home, or almost anywhere to reduce stress, improve memory, and enhance mental focus. It does not require long blocks of time or special training. As we realize the benefit that even a few minutes of meditation per day can provide, we may recommend it to our students. By training our minds to be in the present moment, we can be more in tune with and attentive to the students we advise and/or teach.
