About this Event
1400 University Blvd, Birmingham, AL 35233
The UAB Department Of Political Science and Public Administration's Diversity in Leadership Series is excited to host "Lisa McNair: Dear Denise - Letters to the Sister I Never Knew."
Lisa McNair's older sister, Denise, was one of the four little girls killed in the infamous 1963 bombing of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Through her memoir, Dear Denise: Letters to the Sister I Never Knew, Lisa provides readers a front row seat inside a family that endured a horrific and high-profile loss in the Civil Rights movement. Lisa's poignant stories, often unique and even entertaining, reflect the pain and perseverance of many first-generation post-segregation African Americans.
Lunch will provided at the end of the event. Registration is required to attend.
This event is co-sponsored by the UAB Office of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion; UAB African American Studies Program; UAB Department of History; UAB Honors College; and the UAB Libraries.
