As part of a waste reduction campaign, Green Initiative will conduct a waste audit of Heritage Hall with the support of UAB Sustainability. Waste audits are a method of assessing the trash output of a specific area by sorting the contents and weighing the total amount. This data can inform decisions for more sustainable policies on campus, and also serve as an educational tool to show students the impact of our habits and reliance on single-use items. It will also highlight the volume of items that are recycled incorrectly. 

The objective of the waste audit is to educate students on proper recycling and that trash is not "out of sight, out of mind," but rather an issue that can be reduced by our actions.
