Trainees: Join us for a De-Stress Power Hour focused on understanding and navigating conflict in academic and research environments.

Conflict is a normal part of working, learning, and collaborating with others. In demanding training and workplace settings, conflict can arise internally through competing expectations and pressures, or externally through differences in communication styles, goals, responsibilities, and relationships. How we recognize and respond to conflict often shapes not only outcomes, but also our wellbeing, productivity, and professional relationships.

This month’s session explores different forms of conflict and common approaches to conflict resolution. Participants will gain practical tools to better understand tension within themselves and with others, reflect on their own conflict patterns, and prepare for difficult conversations with greater clarity and confidence.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Recognize different forms of conflict, including intrapersonal and interpersonal conflict
  • Identify common workplace conflict types related to tasks, relationships, and processes
  • Reflect on their own preferred approaches to conflict and how those approaches may help or hinder resolution
  • Assess when and how to engage in difficult conversations constructively
  • Practice preparing for a challenging conversation using evidence-informed communication tools

This session offers an evidence-informed approach to understanding conflict, improving communication, and building healthier, more effective working relationships in demanding academic and training environments.

**Lunch provided on a first-come, first-served basis**

De-Stress Power Hour creates space for you to de-stress in a safe environment, talk to other trainees about your experiences, and learn skills that you can take back into your personal and academic life to take control of your situation. This workshop is led by Student Clinicians, in collaboration with the UAB Master of Arts in Counseling program and the UAB Medicine Office of Wellness.

Trainees from all programs and departments are welcome – no faculty, staff, or administrators allowed. This is a safe space for you to connect with other trainees, spend an hour to invest in your wellness, and skill-build around the monthly topic.
