About this Event
1400 University Blvd, Birmingham, AL 35233
Join us for “Hip Hop Hour: Celebrating Women in Hip Hop.” This open forum is a part of the UAB Office of the Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion’s Hip Hop Hour series.
The Hip Hop Hour series is designed to use Hip Hop culture and music to connect students to social justice issues, build self-efficacy, and support identity formation by creating culturally responsive curriculum that reflects the interests and popular culture of the students we serve. This special session of hip hop hour will focus on the role women have played in hip hop as well as their evolution within the musical genre. There will be a discussion on the representation of women in the genre today as well as opportunities for attendees to participate in activities like Pass the Aux Cord, an activity designed for you to share how hip hop has influenced you through specific songs. Attendees will also have the opportunity to finish the lyrics of their favorite hip hop tune. Refreshments will be provided.
This event is co-sponsored by the UAB African American Studies Program and the UAB Black Student Awareness Committee.
