For over a century, the science of light continues to surprise with fundamental breakthroughs and industrial applications that have transformed our lives. Dr. Kannatassen Appavoo, assistant professor of physics, describes our ultrafast nanophotonics research program at UAB that seeks to develop next-generation technologies in energy-conversion, quantum communications, and sensing. By precisely fabricating nanoarchitectured systems capable of squeezing light to nanoscale dimensions, we can unveil novel optical and electronic phenomena. Dr. Appavoo's research provides insights into providing a means to develop robust nanoscale architectures for integration in energy and quantum systems.
The Haddin Arts & Sciences Forum is an interdisciplinary forum where UAB College of Arts and Sciences faculty present their ongoing research and scholarship to an audience of faculty, staff, and student colleagues from across the College. The goal is to offer scholarship that is interdisciplinary and translatable to a broad audience, celebrating and elevating the intellectual vibrancy present in the academic atmosphere of a College of Arts and Sciences.
