The Theodore Haddin Arts and Sciences Forum is an interdisciplinary forum where UAB College of Arts and Sciences faculty present their ongoing research and scholarship to an audience of faculty, staff, and student colleagues from across the College. The goal is to offer scholarship that is interdisciplinary and translatable to a broad audience, celebrating and elevating the intellectual vibrancy present in the academic atmosphere of the College of Arts and Sciences.
For the final Haddin Forum of the academic year, several faculty members and researchers will present, "EmAI: Testing Artificial Intelligence Use for Inclusive Qualitative Research."
Presenters include:
-
Tina Kempin Reuter, Ph.D., Director, Institute for Human Rights Professor, Departments of Anthropology and Political Science and Public Administration
-
Amber Wagner, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science
-
Shanshan Lian, Ph.D., Post-doc, Institute for Human Rights
-
Jason Lian. Researcher, Institute for Human Rights
They will discuss preliminary findings of the research teams’ implementation of the 2024 CAS Artificial Intelligence (AI) grant. The purpose of the project is to test the use of AI to increase the efficiency and quality of qualitative research in the social sciences. Qualitative research, especially if combined with community-engaged research methodologies, can center lived experiences, elevate the voices of those not usually heard, and contribute to quantitative sciences by adding thick descriptions, context for human behavior, and accounting for the influence of social, economic, and political environments.
