The Center for Teaching and Learning is excited to host a special event in collaboration with the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Dr. Michelle Allen will facilitate “The Tipping Point: Strategies for Engaging in Dynamic Class Dialogue in Challenging Times.”

Join us for this timely and relevant workshop designed to help you effectively navigate dialogue related to difference, identity, and current sociopolitical topics that may arise in the classroom.

Effectively facilitating dialogue across differences is an essential skill set for all faculty members. If we wish to welcome and support academic freedom and freedom of expression in a potentially polarized classroom environment, faculty members must demonstrate vulnerability and establish trust. The Tipping Point discussion will introduce practical approaches for leaning into courageous course dialogue with the strategies necessary to adhere to the course objectives while fostering inclusive excellence and maintaining an environment of mutual respect.

After participating in this session, attendees will be able to:

  • Understand their role in modeling inclusive excellence and mutual respect for the students in the classroom
  • Welcome dialogue across differences with confidence while maintaining the integrity of the classroom environment
  • Utilize trust and vulnerability as tools for connecting with and guiding students through a potentially polarizing sociopolitical environment
