Global Awareness: Communicating Across Cultures and Languages

Presented for UAB faculty by Melissa Hawkins

Description:

  • When interacting with students from diverse backgrounds, differences in cross-cultural communication styles can be at the root of potential communication issues. Learn about communication differences around the globe in this practical workshop, and experience for yourself some of the challenges of speaking in a “different” language. Participants will also learn how to be a better listener to speakers from different language backgrounds and discuss tools for maximizing effective communication in English.

Registration and Check in Details:

  • Please use the registration button above to register. Upon registration you will receive reminder emails. When you arrive for your workshop you will use an ipad to find your name. Once you select your name you will then click "check in". You will not need the QR code that is sent in the reminder emails.

Please Note:

  • CTL workshops are designed to be attended by faculty, academic advisors, and student facing staff.
  • UAB faculty are always welcome to show up to in-person CTL events without registering, but we ask that if food is being served, you wait until all registered participants have gotten their food before serving yourself.

CTL Certification Point Value: 10,000 pts.

You must scan a valid ONE Card in the elevator to visit the 4th floor.
