Global Awareness: Exploring UAB International Student Backgrounds

Presented in the Center for Teaching and Learning for UAB faculty by Melissa Hawkins, Ph.D.

Description:

  • Our early educational experiences shape what we bring to the university classroom. Investigate the educational cultures of our most common international student populations at UAB, with a particular focus on how those backgrounds might pose cross-cultural complexities to work through upon arrival in a U.S. educational context. Discover the key ways that you can be a "cultural broker" to your students in their adjustment to studies at UAB.
  • This particular workshop will focus on the backgrounds of various regions. More information coming soon!

Registration and Check in Details:

  • Please use the registration button above to register. Upon registration you will receive reminder emails. When you arrive for your workshop you will use an ipad to find your name. Once you select your name you will then click "check in". You will not need the QR code that is sent in the reminder emails.

Please Note:

  • The UAB Center for Teaching and Learning presents workshops on teaching practice for UAB faculty (including adjunct instructors), pre-approved graduate students who are currently under contract to teach academic courses at UAB, and teaching staff. Academic advisors and staff who work directly with students are also approved to come to non-teaching focused workshops. CTL workshops are not intended for UAB graduate or undergraduate students.
  • UAB faculty are always welcome to show up to in-person CTL events without registering, but we ask that if food is being served, you wait until all registered participants have gotten their food before serving yourself.

CTL Certification Point Value: 10,000 pts.

You must scan a valid ONE Card in the elevator to visit the 4th floor.
