Introduction to Teaching with COIL

Presented by Melissa Hawkins, PhD

Description: COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) is a teaching approach that connects students from institutions in different countries for collaborative projects embedded in existing courses, spanning 5-8 weeks during the semester, that are completed through online technology, either synchronously, asynchronously, or both. Incorporating COIL can introduce motivating international dimensions to a course and also give opportunity for high-impact learning, offering clear benefits in both intercultural competency outcomes and career readiness. Join us for this short, informative session on what teaching with COIL is like, why you might want to consider implementing it in your classroom, and how the CTL can support you in it.

Please note: This workshop is designed for current UAB teaching faculty, instructors of record, academic advisors, and other student-facing staff members. Graduate students and postdoctoral scholars are invited to attend the CTL LIFT series workshops instead.

CTL Points: 10,000
