About Our Guest
Dr. Ballmann is an Associate Professor of Kinesiology in the Department of Human Studies, Director of the UAB Resistance Exercise Physiology Laboratory, and a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine. A versatile and innovative scientist, he explores both basic and applied approaches to understanding how the body and mind respond to exercise, music, ergogenic aids, and performance demands.
His primary research centers on how music can enhance physical ability and improve psychophysiological responses during exercise - benefiting everyone from competitive athletes to individuals in clinical populations such as those with Parkinson's disease. In addition to his music-related work, Dr. Ballmann investigates how nutritional supplements influence training and performance, with particular interest in sympathomimetics and other stimulants used by athletes and recreational exercisers.
