Speaker: John Fields, MFA - Lydia Cheney and Jim Sokol
Endowed Director of the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts (AEIVA) at UAB
This lecture examines the evolving functions of art throughout human history and how those roles shift in response to social and technological change. In the wake of social media, digital imaging, and generative AI, Fields draws on his experience as an artist, educator, and museum director to offer a speculative reflection on art’s civic function and enduring humanity.
