The U.S. withdrawal from the UN Human Rights Council drew headlines, but it has no bearing on the country’s legal obligations to uphold globally recognized and long-standing human rights standards. Over recent years proponents of international law and human rights have helped strengthen international monitoring and accountability processes, and this year U.S. residents have the opportunity to hold leaders accountable to global human rights standards and law. This panel features local and national human rights leaders offering expertise and insights into how international law and UN processes can help local civil society and government actors support and defend the rights of people in their communities. The Human Rights Cities Alliance and partners will help bring local voices to the UN as we build international alliances to defend and support human rights at home. Find out how your community can build the power of cross-city solidarity!

Leading this conversation will be Julio Mateo, Human Rights Researcher (Dayton United for Human Rights), Jamil Dakwar, Director (American Civil Liberties Union's Human Rights Program), Joshua Cooper, (Human Rights Cities Alliance), and Danielle Landen, Human Rights Practice Graduate Student (University of Arizona. Dr. Jackie Smith (Human Rights Cities Alliance & Pittsburg Human Rights City Alliance) will facilitate the conversation.

This webinar is in partnership with the Human Rights Cities Alliance (HRCA).
