Featuring Dr. Paul Shafer
The Lister Hill Center for Health Policy invites the UAB community to a seminar lecture by Dr. Paul Shafer, a nationally recognized health economist and policy scholar whose work focuses on how health insurance and social safety net policies shape health outcomes and equity. In this lecture, Dr. Shafer will discuss the role of public insurance and safety net programs in reducing administrative burdens, alleviating economic deprivation, and improving access to care, with an emphasis on policy-relevant evidence to inform current health reform debates.
Dr. Shafer is an Associate Professor of Health Law, Policy, and Management and Co-Director of the Medicaid Policy Lab at the Boston University School of Public Health. He is also an investigator with the Partnered Evidence-Based Policy Resource Center at the VA Boston Healthcare System, where he leads evaluations of policies and delivery innovations designed to improve veterans’ access to care and health outcomes. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Commonwealth Fund, and Arnold Ventures, among others, and has been cited by the White House, Congress, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the U.S. Surgeon General, and the National Academies, as well as major national media outlets.
This event is hosted by the Lister Hill Center for Health Policy in the Ryals Public Health Building, Room 407. Coffee will be served and registration is recommended.
