A documentary produced by Film Director Etant Dupain, Madan Sara, sheds light on the group of women who are an integral link in the Haitian economic chain. This film follows their stories, and exposes their hardships and establishes consequences their survival and success have on the Haitian economy as a whole. This group of women are known as the Madan Sara, and they ensure that food grown on farms are transported to the markets to be readily available to consumers. Despite the many social and infrastrucutral challenges they face, the Madan Sara continue to carry out these tasks in an attempt to create a better lifestyle for the future generations. This film is recognized internationally, and has recieved many awards for its excellence, including the Gold Award in the Best Women Short category at the Independent Short Awards, and the Best Feature Documentary at the Best Istanbul Film Festival.
Following the documentary showing, there will also be a conversation with the director of the film. Etant Dupain is a filmmaker, journalist, and activist, who has worked on various films for internationally recognized organizations such as Al Jazeera, BBC, CNN, Netflix, PBS, and Vice. Dupain also heads a Haitian media project that enables ordinary citizens to capture stories of politics, aid accountability, and other social issues that can then be shared through his platform. Dupain has been awarded Best Director in the Short Documentary category at the Berlin Indie Film Festival.
