Chemical Hazards During COVID-19: Disinfectants, Cleaning Chemicals & Tear Gas

This is a past event.

This webinar is made possible through a partnership between the Deep South Biosafety Worker Training Program (WTP), the Region IV Public Health Training Center, and the UAB Research Center of Excellence in Arsenicals. The Deep South Biosafety WTP is a consortium of the Alabama Fire College Workplace Safety Training Program, the UAB School of Public Health, and the UAB Office of Interprofessional Simulation for Innovative Clinical Practice and is federally funded by National Institutes of Environmental Health Sciences (3U45ES006155-29S1).

The COVID-19 Pandemic has created numerous challenges to EMS and Healthcare Providers including responding and managing injuries from exposures to cleaning chemicals and disinfectants by patients who are concerned with virus transmission. Additionally, recent protests have raised concerns regarding risks of viral transmission during crowd gatherings, however, injuries from trauma and tear gas have also been reported. During this webinar, Dr. Ziad Kazi and Dr. Paul Wax, two experts in medical toxicology, will discuss hazards from disinfectants, cleaning chemicals and tear gas as well as emergency assessment and management of associated injuries.
