De-Stress Power Hour: The Power of Co-Working
About this Event
1714 9th Avenue South, Birmingham, AL 35233
Who: All trainees (graduate and medical students, postdocs, residents, and fellows)
Benefits: Free lunch sponsored by GSG (first come, first served) and complementary community and support
Topic of the month: The Power of Co-Working to Mitigate Stress
At last month’s Power Hour, we discussed the common stressors that we experience in our training environments and programs. One of the most powerful parts of that session was hearing that we are not alone in our stressful experiences. Our student clinicians taught us about the utility of the Eisenhower Principle and how to categorize our to-do list in a meaningful and productive way – but is there more we can do to enhance our training experience?
Research shows that when we feel a sense of community, we are 58% more likely to thrive at work – allowing of 55% more engagement and 66% more likely to stay within the work environment, with less stress and positive benefits that then flood over into our non-work lives.
This month in Power Hour, we will be focusing on The Power of Co-Working. How do we find community in our training programs – and how do we expand our network to get more perspective and support that will benefit us now and in the future?
Join us as we create space for you to de-stress in a safe environment, talk to other trainees about your experiences, and learn skills that you can take back into your personal and academic life to take control of your situation.
De-Stress Power Hour led by Student Clinicians, in collaboration with the UAB Masters of Arts in Counseling program and the UAB Medicine Office of Wellness.
Trainees from all programs and departments are welcome – no faculty, staff, or administrators allowed. This is a safe space for you to connect with other trainees, spend an hour to invest in your wellness, and skill build around the monthly topic.
For any questions or concerns, please reach out to Dr. Laurence Boitet (Lmblac@uab.edu).
