De-Stress Power Hour: Tools for Thriving Under Pressure
About this Event
1700 University Blvd, Birmingham, AL 35233
Trainees:
Join us for a De-Stress Power Hour focused on building skills to cope with and thrive under pressure.
In academic and research settings, high-stakes tasks, deadlines, and competing responsibilities can create intense pressure. How we respond to that pressure, rather than the pressure itself, often determines whether we feel stuck, stressed, or energized.
Building on last month’s session on Procrastination, this program explores how stress, high expectations, and fluctuating energy levels influence performance and wellbeing. Participants will learn practical, evidence-informed strategies to manage pressure effectively.
Participants will learn how to:
Identify personal responses to pressure and stress activators
Apply cognitive and behavioral strategies to stay focused and motivated
Choose and practice tools to maintain performance without burnout
This session offers an evidence-informed approach to turning pressure into a source of motivation and growth in demanding training environments.
**Lunch provided on a first-come, first-served basis**
De-Stress Power Hour creates space for you to de-stress in a safe environment, talk to other trainees about your experiences, and learn skills that you can take back into your personal and academic life to take control of your situation. This workshop is led by Student Clinicians, in collaboration with the UAB Master of Arts in Counseling program and the UAB Medicine Office of Wellness.
Trainees from all programs and departments are welcome – no faculty, staff, or administrators allowed. This is a safe space for you to connect with other trainees, spend an hour to invest in your wellness, and skill-build around the monthly topic.
For any questions or concerns, please reach out to Dr. Laurence Boitet (Lmblac@uab.edu).
