DESCRIPTION:The David E. Wells Memorial Endowment Fund was established for 
 the purpose of supporting graduate students in basic science through lectu
 res and other educational activities. David Wells was a beloved graduate s
 tudent who lost his battle with melanoma the day after completing all requ
 irements for his Ph.D. degree. Every other year the David E. Wells Memoria
 l Symposium is held where three Department Microbiology graduate students 
 give 20 minute research presentations  with the most outstanding presenter
  receiving $1000. These presentations are fantastic.  This year the three 
 student presenters will be Josh Baty\, Dominik Herrmann and Sara Stoner. F
 ollowing the student presentations\, there is a keynote presentation by a 
 world renown scientist.\n\nWe are thrilled to announce that Dr. Erica Ollm
 ann-Saphire\, Professor\, President and CEO at La Jolla Institute for Immu
 nology\, will be the David E. Wells memorial symposium keynote speaker. Dr
 . Ollmann-Saphire will be presenting “Antibody defense against emerging 
 infectious disease” at 3:00pm in BRBB 170. \n\nThe event will include a 
 reception following Dr. Ollmann-Saphire’s presentation.
