https://www.uab.edu/medicine/microbiology/news-events/lectures-seminars-symposia/david-e-wells-symposiumThe David E. Wells Memorial Endowment Fund was established for the purpose of supporting graduate students in basic science through lectures and other educational activities. David Wells was a beloved graduate student who lost his battle with melanoma the day after completing all requirements for his Ph.D. degree. Every other year the David E. Wells Memorial Symposium is held where three Department Microbiology graduate students give 20 minute research presentations with the most outstanding presenter receiving $1000. These presentations are fantastic. This year the three student presenters will be Josh Baty, Dominik Herrmann and Sara Stoner. Following the student presentations, there is a keynote presentation by a world renown scientist.
We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Erica Ollmann-Saphire, Professor, President and CEO at La Jolla Institute for Immunology, will be the David E. Wells memorial symposium keynote speaker. Dr. Ollmann-Saphire will be presenting “Antibody defense against emerging infectious disease” at 3:00pm in BRBB 170.
The event will include a reception following Dr. Ollmann-Saphire’s presentation.
