The UAB Informatics Institute announces a call for participation in the 3rd Annual Data Science Hackathon.  This year, our theme will be "AI Against Cancer."

Data scientists, cancer researchers, oncologists, and other clinical and translational researchers are invited to form teams to address cancer data science challenges.  Participants are encouraged to explore registry, clinical, and genomic data from publicly available sources, such as the NCI Cancer Research Data Commons (CRDC) and the UAB Cancer Bioinformatics and Data Science portal (C-BIDS).  The event will be guided by a panel of UAB experts consisting of faculty geneticists, virologists, clinicians, informaticians, epidemiologists, and other educators, who will serve as either mentors or judges.

Collaborate and learn with other cancer researchers, oncologists, and data scientists to address emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI) in precision oncology challenges!  We especially welcome students, fellows, faculty, scientists, health professionals, industry professionals, data analysts, software developers and individuals from any discipline with an interest in solving cancer problems using a data-driven approach.  You may join a pre-formed team (4-5 members) or create or join a new team through several town hall webinars and networking events that we will host online.

There will be cash prizes for the top three teams, which will be announced during the closing ceremony.  We will invite all Hackathon teams to present their work to the UAB informatics community during a special UAB Informatics Institute PowerTalk event.

Registration is FREE but hurry, as the competition is limited to the first 120 participants who register, complete an expertise profile and join a team by the deadline, July 31, 2021.

We look forward to seeing you at the Hackathon and working together to develop innovative solutions in data science to advance the prevention, diagnosis and treatement of cancer.
