About this Event
8966 US-231, Wetumpka, AL 36092
Students will partner with the non-profit advocacy group, Aid To Inmate Mothers, to help incarcerated women record video messages for their children. Students will provide guidance to the inmates, record their messages, burn their messages to a DVD and send their messages to their children awaiting them in the community.
The purpose of these messages is to help incarcerated women maintain relationships with their children. Numerous studies have supported the value of maintaining parental bonds despite incarceration. Students perceptions of this experience are documented via pre-test and post-tests.
In addition, students will participate in a service learning project that will raise awareness about the challenges faced by those re-entering society from prison.
Those participating in the project will need to be registered for CJ-343 or SW-478 and have completed a background check and training.
