Sponsored by the Alabama Power Foundation and UAB, this program is designed for UAB students only, at any level or from any school, who are passionate about entrepreneurship. The program will culminate with a presentation and awards gala on November 18, 2019 at UAB's Collat School of Business.

Any UAB student can apply to this program. However, UAB students with serious entrepreneurial aspirations and who definitely see entrepreneurial activity in their future - but who have not yet launched a full-time business - are especially welcome to apply. The program is specifically designed to serve future Blazer entrepreneurs with a powerful and transformational entrepreneurship education experience. Not everyone who applies will be admitted to this program; the cohort size will be limited to 25 members.

The Blazer Hatchery and Hackathon entails two primary components:

(1) An intensive one-month crash course in the entrepreneurial mindset, delivered by UAB's world-class entrepreneurship faculty and expert practitioners and overseen by UAB Goodrich Endowed Chair Dr. Patrick J. Murphy. This component is called the *Hatchery.* All aspiring entrepreneurs will benefit from it.

(2) At the conclusion of the Hatchery, participants will be assembled into five teams for a one-month *Hackathon.* This component entails working with an entrepreneurial team on your own schedule, developing an entrepreneurial solution to a real-world problem, and putting knowledge gleaned from the Hatchery, along with your own talents, into real entrepreneurial practice.

To launch the Hackathon, senior leaders from Alabama Power and the Alabama Power Foundation will present a specific challenge to the cohort involving (a) energy efficiency, (b) transportation, and (c) under-resourced communities. The Alabama Power Foundation has generously committed $10,000 cash to use as prize money for three Hackathon teams with the best entrepreneurial approaches. Depending on the quality of the venture ideas, possibilities for further engagement may exist after the Hackathon.

To support teams during the one-month Hackathon, UAB will provide administrative support, pitch coaching, and expert-level programming/development talent to teams as necessary.

The application form appears below. Understand that there are no actual right/wrong answers to most of the items. They are merely designed to indicate how you might handle information in radical entrepreneurial settings and high-performance team contexts.
