Abstract: Presenting a project aiming to describe how the COVID-19 disease burden relates to the county-level social determinants of health (SDOH). The existing SDOH indices focus on measures relevant to chronic disease burden. These alone may not be sufficient to understand the spread of infectious agents like the SARS-CoV-2 virus. In addition, any/all of these measures are likely to vary geographically. We aimed to 1) quantify SDOH using traditional county-level measures across the continental US and with each census region; 2) quantify a modified SDOH using county-level traditional measures as well as measures relevant to the dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 virus transmission; and 3) visualize the COVID-19 disease burden based on the various county typologies identified in above aims.
