DESCRIPTION:The Heersink School of Medicine chapter of the American Medical
  Women's Association (AMWA) invites you to attend August's session. Marie-C
 armelle Elie\, M.D.\, F.A.C.E.P.\, F.C.C.M.\, will present "Navigating Comp
 assion Fatigue in the Workplace."\n\nDr. Marie-Carmelle Elie is an Endowed 
 Professor and Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Universi
 ty of Alabama at Birmingham\, making her the first Black woman to be named 
 a full professor and permanent chair of an academic emergency medicine depa
 rtment at a major American medical school. She has previously served as fac
 ulty at the University of Florida College of Medicine and Rutgers Universit
 y of Medicine and Dentistry where she held leadership roles in the clinical
  missions of Emergency Medicine\, Critical Care and Palliative Medicine.\n\
 nDr. Elie completed her emergency medicine residency at Mount Sinai Medical
  Center and went on to complete a Critical Care and Trauma fellowship at th
 e R. Adam Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland. Triple 
 board-certified in emergency medicine\, critical care and hospice and palli
 ative medicine\, Dr. Elie made contributions in critical care initiatives b
 y collaborating with internal and outlying community stakeholders\, spearhe
 ading sepsis quality with a novel alert system in North Central Florida. Sh
 e also developed her passion for palliative care by helping to start pallia
 tive inpatient services at UF Health and serving as the Chief Medical Offic
 er for Haven Hospice\, one of the largest hospice organizations in North Fl
 orida. A clinical trialist and former research director\, she spearheaded t
 he growth of a multimillion dollar research portfolio obtaining funding in 
 the areas of acute respiratory distress\, sepsis and palliative care.\n\nDr
 . Elie was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2022.
