“Fall in Japan: Autumn Leaves in Calligraphy”
Akiko Taniguchi was born and raised in Japan and has a BA from Tokyo International University in Saitama, Japan. She began learning calligraphy at the age of 10 and continued her passion for the art until 23, when she obtained a calligraphy master certificate (8 th level) from Genwa Calligraphy School. She moved to Alabama in May 2018 and has been teaching calligraphy to local children since 2019 to pass the tradition of Japanese calligraphy down to future generations.
In this workshop, Akiko will demonstrate calligraphy and explain its historical, social, and academic roles in Japanese contemporary society. Participants will also have the opportunity to write some autumn words in hiragana or kanji with Akiko’s guidance.
We hope this workshop will help everyone feel the cozy warmth and colors of the autumn season!
