Advising as Teaching: Advisor Impact on Belonging

Presented by Dr. Heather Ammons

Description: Students who do not feel like they belong in college often end up leaving before completing their degree. This feeling of belonging depends on building and maintaining relationships, as well as the student's own perceptions and understanding of their college experiences. Advisors play a key role in helping students develop this sense of belonging by showing care, encouraging students to be themselves, and helping them navigate the university. Join us as we discuss what belonging means, why it's important for student success, and how advisors can impact a student's sense of belonging.
