The 20th annual Ada Long Creative Writing Workshop for high school students will be held June 9 – 27, 2025 in UAB's Spencer Honors House. Each of the 30 students will write, draft, and publish their creative work in our student-edited magazine The Writers’ Block. Each week students explore a different genre such as poetry, fiction, memoir, podcasting, screen-writing, or magazine production. They will also find inspiration from Birmingham’s rich history and culture via field trips and activities.

Lunch is provided each day. Optional college credit is offered. Scholarships for students with financial need are available. Rising 9th through 12th graders interested in creative writing are encouraged to apply.

Learn more about the Workshop, read our student-edited magazine, listen to our student-created podcast, and apply here. Or contact the Director, Tina Mozelle Braziel at tmharris@uab.edu or 205-934-8573.
