Dr. Eric Ford, Professor of Public Health Policy and Organization, will explain how AI can help speed up test results, giving patients clearer answers sooner and easing some of the worry that comes with waiting. About Our Guest

Dr. Ford is a UAB alum and Professor in the School of Public health, with a joint appointment in the Collat School of Business. His work focuses on how health information technologies, value-based programs, and integrated care models shape performance and improve patient outcomes.

Before returning to UAB as faculty, he held leadership and academic positions at Johns Hopkins University and UNC Greensboro. He currently serves as Editor of the Journal of Healthcare Management and has received multiple publication awards, along with the Academy of Management's Health Care Management Division Teaching Award.

Dr. Holly Wyatt, UAB professor in Nutrition Sciences, has more than 20 years of clinical experience in weight reduction using behavioral treatment, dietary therapy, physical activity interventions, weight loss medications, and surgery. She was the medical director for seasons four and five of ABC’s TV show Extreme Weight Loss and has spent much of her research career following more than 10,000 “successful losers” in the National Weight Control Registry.

Dr. James Hill is one of the world's foremost experts in obesity and weight management. Dr. Hill is Director of the Nutrition Obesity Research Center and a professor at UAB. He is co-founder of the National Weight Control Registry, a registry of individuals who have been successful in maintenance of a reduced body weight, and American on the Move, a national weight gain prevention initiative that aims to inspire Americans to make small changes to prevent weight gain.

Speaker: Dr. Anna Mueller, Luther Dana Waterman Professor of Sociology and Senior Research Program Leader for the Irsay Family Research Institute at Indiana University Bloomington.

Description: Schools are the most important place for youth suicide prevention yet often struggle with the task. Dr. Anna Mueller addresses this challenge by advancing an organizational theory of school-based suicide prevention based on her community-engaged research comparing two high schools in the same public school district that differ only in their experiences with student suicide. Dr. Mueller’s talk will address the transdisciplinary study of suicide, the sociology of education, and the policy implications of her research for schools.

Following the lecture, there will be a Q&A session and light reception.

Audra McDonald is a once‑in‑a‑generation artist—and Birmingham audiences have a rare opportunity to experience her live.

Making her highly anticipated debut at UAB’s Alys Stephens Center, Audra McDonald brings her luminous voice, profound emotional depth, and unparalleled artistry to an intimate evening of song and storytelling. From Broadway classics to American songbook gems, this program spans generations of music, delivered with the insight and power that have made her one of the most celebrated performers of our time.

McDonald is the most awarded acting performer in Tony Award history, a record‑breaking six‑time Tony winner with 11 acting nominations, along with two Grammy Awards and an Emmy Award. In 2015, she received the National Medal of Arts, and she has been named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People.

Founded in 1994 by C. Brian Williams, Step Afrika! is the world’s leading authority on the art form of stepping.
