We're returning to Crestline Village again this year for a beautiful and FLAT route. The race is hosted on a certified course and will be chipped and timed. The 10K race is two loops on the 5K route.

Can't make it in-person or can't run? Join us virtually while supporting student scholarships by signing up to participate in spirit.

Our annual Scholarship Run helps further the mission of the NAS and allows us to raise money to support current and future Blazers. Your support will allow us to continue to provide services that currently exist and to provide even more opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and alumni.

All participants (5K, 10K, Fun Run, Virtual) will receive a packet with a t-shirt and finisher medal. Winner medals will be awarded to the 1st place finishers overall (5K and 10K races only) and in each age and gender category.

If registering after Friday, April 10, desired run t-shirt size not guaranteed.

Online registration for the 5K, 10K, and Fun Run will close at 11:59:59 pm on Friday, April 17. If registering for an in-person event on Saturday, April 18, all registrations will take place onsite.

Join us on Friday, May 1, 2026, for the 3rd annual Heroes and Healers event, presented by UAB Trauma! This year, we’re having our very own movie premiere, complete with red carpet and velvet rope! Join us as we recognize and celebrate survivors of traumatic injury and their families, as well as the first responders and healthcare professionals who saved their lives and helped them on their road to recovery.

Tickets include light hors d’oeuvres and beverages, red carpet photos, and the world premiere of the 2026 Heroes and Healers short films. Alcoholic beverages and non-alcoholic cocktails will be available at a cash bar.

We look forward to seeing you for an uplifting evening at the UAB Alys Stephens Center’s Morris K. Sirote Theatre.

Participants can choose from a variety of activities, including kickball and pickleball, or enjoy low‑impact movement on the indoor walking track. Whether you’re playing to win or just playing for fun, this event is all about connecting with colleagues, celebrating teamwork, and enjoying time together outside the office.

How to Participate:
Staff members interested in kickball or pickleball are encouraged to sign up in advance. Kickball registration will be available through a Microsoft Form, and pickleball registration will be facilitated through IM Leagues, with options to join as a team or sign up as a free agent.

Those who plan to participate in any athletic activity will be required to complete a recreation waiver upon entering the UAB Rec Center. All participants should wear closed‑toe shoes and comfortable attire suitable for movement.

Dr. Coppiano earned his M.D. from the Medical College of Georgia, completed his family medicine residency there, and later completed a sports medicine fellowship at UCLA before joining UAB in 2023.

Dr. Altonji is a postdoctoral fellow in the UAB Nutrition Obesity Research Center and the Department of Nutrition Sciences. She earned her Ph.D. in Nutrition Science from Auburn University before joining Dr. Courtney Peterson's lab at UAB, where she contributes to clinical trials focused on time-restricted eating, a form of intermittent fasting.

Her work centers on understanding how eating patterns influence blood sugar regulation and the function of adipose tissue, commonly known as body fat. Dr. Altonji brings a research-driven perspective to the study of meal timing and metabolic health, adding insights into how carefully structured eating approaches may support long-term wellness.
