Get ready to roll, shape, and create! This hands-on class introduces middle school students to the fun and colorful world of polymer clay jewelry. No experience needed — just bring your imagination and a willingness to try something new!

You’ll learn:

How to condition, cut, and shape polymer claySimple techniques for color blending and adding textureBaking and finishing tips for a polished final productHow to attach hardware and turn your designs into wearable artBy the end of the session, you’ll take home your own handmade earrings and the skills to keep creating your own accessories at home!

Rhonda Henry is the owner and creator of RhondiKreations, a jewelry brand that combines bold design with artistic expression. Her love for art started at a young age, and over time, she realized that circumstances don’t define who you are or who you can become. As a wife, working mother, student, and former Marine, Rhonda finds inspiration in her diverse life experiences, pouring her unique artistic vision into each handcrafted polymer clay piece.

Whether you’re a beginner or a skilled practitioner, join us for a free 45-minute guided meditation led by certified yoga therapist, Kim Richardson. Each session, inspired by the art of Virginia Lee Montgomery, will be held in the galleries at AEIVA immersed in the art on view. Due to space restrictions, classes are capped to a total of 20 participants per class. Advance registration is required.

Participants in these programs may be expected to sit on the floor or in a low chair or cushion for prolonged periods of time. Participants are encouraged to bring their own yoga mats or small floor cushion. Please note that water bottles are not permitted in the galleries.

The adventures of Vocabby take pre-K children on travels around the world as they learn vocabulary words through science and arts concepts. Through this partnership, ArtPlay is providing hands-on activities that reach families in our communities and across the country. Ratinov is the recent winner of the 3rd Prize at the 2024 Concours Musical International de Montréal, where he was praised for his “striking confidence in taking risks” (Le Devoir). In 2025, he won 2nd Prize at the National U.S. Chopin Competition and went on to earn acclaim at the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, where Gramophone praised his “characterful narrative” and “discerning musicianship,” noting that “choices in regard to articulation and tone color never occurred for their own sake, but in accordance with what the music required.” The magazine also highlighted his “fusion of leanness and warmth” and “aristocratic” interpretations, describing them as “memorable long after the performance.”

Anthony’s additional honors include the 2nd Prize at the Busoni International Piano Competition, 1st Prize at the Ricard Viñes International Piano Competition, 2nd Prize and Audience Favorite at the València Iturbi International Piano Competition, and 2nd Prize at the Olga Kern International Piano Competition.

Born in Indiana, Anthony began his musical journey at the age of four. His first teacher was his grandmother, Edit Ratinova, who taught at Moscow’s renowned Gnessin Music School for 45 years before emigrating to the United States. He holds an Artist Diploma from The Juilliard School, where he studied with Robert McDonald. He completed his graduate studies at the Yale School of Music, studying with Boris Berman and Boris Slutsky, and previously earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Yale University, graduating with honors while studying piano with Wei-Yi Yang.

Ratinov has performed at major venues including Amsterdam’s Royal Concertgebouw, Vienna’s ORF RadioKulturhaus, Montréal’s Maison Symphonique, Warsaw’s Philharmonic Hall, and Barcelona’s Palau de la Música Catalana. Upcoming highlights include Brahms Piano Concerto No. 2 at the Berliner Philharmonie and a year-long collaboration with the Classeek Ambassador Program. Anthony is a young Steinway Artist.

Students who choose this route will explore theatre as a transformative art form using acting and movement to tell stories. Designed for students who want to use performance as a way to inspire change in the world and themselves.

Creative Writing – Focus on Poetry

Led by David Strickland

Students will be led in different forms of creative writing including Poetry and Descriptive Writing. Using different locations on UAB Campus as inspiration, writing students can hope to find new ways to express themselves through this 3-day writing exploration.

Visual Art – Focus on Discovery of Artistic Process

Led by Stephanie Tatum

Students will learn to slow down and focus on process-driven exploration, rather than creating a polished final product. In each project, they will be encouraged towards experimentation, self-expression, and creative risk-taking.
